It’s breathtakingly cold, and looking at the forecast for the end of the week, we’ve taken the decision to close the gardens on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd March due to possible snow and icy conditions. Please check our social channels for updates, we’ll keep you posted.
Again, we’ll have to take a decision tomorrow based on the forecast, but will keep you updated on facebook, instagram and twitter. Fingers crossed for bright sunshine come Sunday!
Despite the icy weather, Spring is definitely on its way with winter aconites, snowdrops, crocuses and hellebores providing a carpet of colour in the garden. The camellias are in bloom on the Mount, and it’s a lovely time to have a wander.
We are now fully booked for afternoon tea at Forde Abbey on Sunday 11th March, but will still have plenty of cakes and homemade goodness on sale for those wanting a special Mothering Sunday treat.
Supper Club, 10th March
We’ll be setting the table again on 10th March for our next supper club, a celebration of all that is Spring with porchetta on the menu (hand reared by Ed, the chef, from Mello View ), seasonal greens and custard tarts infused with appley goodness. Of course it’s not just about the food. There’ll be a wine tasting with vintner Paddy Magill of Vine Wine, in the Great Hall . It’s a casual byo type of evening with a choice of wine to complement the menu, also available to buy on the night. Tickets are £30, available to buy online.
Easter in the Land of Oz, 30th Mar-2nd April
Follow the yellow brick road this Easter to Forde Abbey where you’ll find Dorothy, a tin man, a plucky lion and a scarecrow on a magical adventure in the Land of Oz. Journey through and put your courage, bravery, compassion and brains to the test and earn some chocolatey treats along the way.
